BlackCoral Energy, a well-established bunker supplier and trader, and Biofuel Express, a specialist in renewable fuels for land transport, are proud to announce a new joint venture aimed at delivering physical biofuel supplies to the maritime industry. The collaboration will initially focus on ports in Denmark, southern Norway, southern Sweden, northern Germany, and select other locations in Europe.
This strategic partnership combines BlackCoral Energy’s strong foothold and network in the marine fuel and bunkering sector with Biofuel Express’s deep expertise in high-performance renewable fuels such as HVO100 Renewable Diesel and B100 Biodiesel RME Premium. By merging strengths, the two companies aim to offer reliable, compliant, and future-ready fuel solutions for vessel operators navigating the shift toward sustainability.
“This joint venture strengthens both our businesses and, more importantly, brings added value to our customers,” says Christoph Riecken, Managing Partner at BlackCoral Energy. “Our marine industry knowledge, paired with Biofuel Express’s biofuel capabilities, creates a powerful offering for ship owners preparing for 2025 FuelEU Maritime requirements.”
The initial biofuel deliveries – HVO100 and B100 – will be supplied via truck, with barge deliveries and blended marine fuels (e.g., MGO and VLSFO blends) set to follow in the near future. These fuels offer substantial greenhouse gas reductions, with typical CO₂ savings of up to 90% for HVO100 and 70% for B100 compared to standard MGO 0.1%.
Each delivery includes a Proof of Sustainability (PoS) to support FuelEU Maritime reporting. Furthermore, the joint venture offers added services such as GHG emission factor tracking per ship or fleet, allowing operators to monitor progress and make informed bunkering decisions throughout the year.
“Thanks to continuous GHG monitoring and advisory services, we help customers plan which fuels to use, in which ports, and at what time—ensuring compliance with the 89.3368 gCO₂e/MJ limit in 2025 while keeping costs under control,” says Clemen Rasmussen, Partner / Board member at Biofuel Express.
This joint venture is a timely and strategic move to meet growing demand for drop-in biofuels that are compatible with existing marine engines and infrastructure, offering a seamless transition to greener operations without sacrificing performance or reliability.
